Playa Cristal, Santa Marta: What to do and how to get there

What to do in Playa Cristal?

Being a beach located in a National Park, you can find different activities in Playa Cristal to do during your visit. There are spectacular coral reefs just a few meters from the shore that offer the opportunity to see and swim among different species of fish, sponges, and corals of multiple colors and sizes. Honestly, you will feel transported to Nemo's world while swimming at Playa Cristal.

As in almost all the beaches of Santa Marta, in Playa Cristal, you will find different restaurants that offer local cuisine with unique flavors that will remind you that you are in the spectacular Colombian Caribbean. You will be infected by the joy and friendliness of the people working in the restaurants while enjoying a delicious lunch in front of the sea.

How to get to Playa Cristal?

Playa Cristal is located less than 20 kilometers from Santa Marta, but you have different options to get there.

1. Playa Cristal by boat:

The trip to Playa Cristal is very fun and entertaining, as you will get to know different bays of Santa Marta and Tayrona Park. The trip starts at the North Pier of Rodadero, where you will take the boat that will take you to the magical destination. From there, it will take the boat approximately 60 minutes to get to Playa Cristal, and you will be able to enjoy a tour that passes through: 

  • Gaira Bay
  • Inca Inca Beach
  • Playa Blanca
  • Santa Marta Bay
  • Concha Bay
  • Taganga

2. Playa Cristal by land:

The route to Playa Cristal by land is absolutely spectacular. You must take the Troncal del Caribe highway with the road to La Guajira until you reach the entrance to Neguanje, less than 1 kilometer from the toll booth. From there, you take the road that goes to Neguanje, where you will find about 20 minutes away from the main checkpoint where you can pay the entrance fee and medical assistance insurance.

From this place, you will drive along a beautiful semi-paved road completely surrounded by tropical dry forest inside Tayrona Park. After about 30 minutes of travel and before reaching the beach of Neguanje, you will find a viewpoint where you can enjoy the spectacular view of Playa de las 7 Olas, a magical place, but where swimming is prohibited, the safety of travelers and to preserve the corals.

From this point, it will take approximately 15 minutes to get to Neguanje Beach, a nice spot for fishermen and restaurants where you can take the boat that will take you to Playa Cristal. It will only be a short ride of about 8 minutes in a completely protected bay, with no waves and a breathtaking view of the hills surrounding the bay.
