Can you snorkel if you can’t swim?

Many visitors hesitate about going snorkeling because they can’t swim, if that is your case you have to know that you can enjoy snorkeling without needing the ability to swim or float. You can do it on your own if you do it in shallow waters, or, if you take the assistance of an instructor, you can go to deeper areas safely. Follow the recommendations carefully because even experienced swimmers can make some mistakes when snorkeling.

Mistakes you want to avoid:

  • Stepping on the corals: As they are slow-growing, stepping on them can cause terrible damage to the ecosystem. And if you think about it, the corals are the reason to go snorkeling or scuba diving, so, by preserving them we are taking care of nature and we let others enjoy it too.

  • Being sick: Wait until you feel better. The idea is to enjoy the experience, and if you are sick, it is not going to be the same.

  • Ignoring the instructions or not being responsible with the environment.

  • Separate yourself from the group and the instructor.

  • Get outside the safe area for snorkeling.

Following the instructions will keep you safe and your group, too.
