  • And to the east with the Caribbean Sea.

Beaches of the Waves Corridor

Located in the far north next to Tayrona National Park and near the mouth of the Piedras River, Los Naranjos beach is a favorite venue for Surfing championships. This beach offers a magnificent view of the Sierra Nevada and is considered a sacred place for the Koguis. It’s also a destination for mountain biking, snorkeling and artisanal fishing

Los Angeles Beach is located at kilometer 33.2 on the road that leads from Santa Marta to Riohacha. By car, it is approximately five minutes from the main entrance of Tayrona Park. This destination is spectacular thanks to its warm atmosphere and the beautiful white sand beach. It is the perfect place to disconnect and reconnect with nature and its tranquility. It’s ideal for surfing, camping, horseback riding and stargazing.

Access to the beaches of the Waves Corridor

If you want to go to these beaches by bus, you must get to the Santa Marta public market (Plaza de Mercado) on Calle 11 with Carrera 13 and take the inter-municipal route (Parque Tayrona, Guachaca, Buritaca and Palomino). Do not forget to let the driver know which beach you want to go to. This route leaves approximately every twenty minutes.
There are also other charming freshwater destinations such as the river mouths of Mendihuaca, Guachaca, Buritaca, Don Diego. It is only necessary to take the same transport route that goes to the town of Palomino, in the public market of Santa Marta. You can also contact a tour operator.

These freshwater destinations are ideal for a number of different recreational activities including tubing, hiking and swimming (with caution). Where these rivers meet the sea creates a unique landscape and environment in contrast to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The swell in these areas is strong. Great caution must be exercised when swimming.

Quebrada Valencia

Quebrada Valencia is located in the town of Guachaca, in the Buritica sector. The atmosphere and geography of this place stands out because it has a huge waterfall that seems like it’s cascading down from the sky. It emerges from the middle of the forest of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta and is marked by a path surrounded by a thick jungle. The path starts at the main road and leads to the majestic waterfall. The site is ideal for hikes, reconnecting with nature and observing the local fauna and flora.

For those looking to be inspired, this is a must-see destination when you visit Santa Marta!
